Update on the Party-run Presidential Primary for the 2020 Election

The Democratic Party of Hawai’i has made many changes to how we all are able to vote for our respective candidate that we each support to  become the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States of America. These changes were done to be as inclusive as possible.

CHANGE #1: We have separated the Precinct meetings from the Party-run Presidential Primary (PPP). The Precinct meetings, as you know is where we elect our Precinct & District officers as well as the delegates to our State & County Conventions, will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at various locations across the state. You will be able to find a complete listing of those locations on the Party’s website www.hawaiidemocrats.org in January 2020.

CHANGE #2:  All members of the Democratic Party of Hawai’i will be able to vote by mail in the Party-run Presidential Primary.

  • Everyone who is an enrolled member of the Democratic Party of Hawaii and their mailing address is up-to-date (you can update your membership information and your family, friends & neighbors can join the Party on-line at www.hawaiidemocrats.org/join) and a registered voter in the state of Hawaii (https://olvr.hawaii.gov) by February 18, 2020a ballot will be mailed to your house
  • A second mailing will be done after March 8, 2020 for anyone that joins between February 19 & March 8, 2020
  • Anyone that joins after March 8, 2020will have to go to a polling location on April 4, 2020

CHANGE #3:  The Democratic Party of Hawaii’s Party-run Presidential Primary will offer Rank-Choice Voting.

  • Everyone will be able to vote for up to your three (3) top candidates.
  • If you only want to vote for one or two that is fine as well.

CHANGE #4: There will be same-day voter registration, Party enrollment, and in-person voting for those who miss the vote-by-mail deadlines or chose not to vote by mail.

  • Will be available on Saturday, April 4, 2020 from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM at locations across the state
  • There will be polling locations available on every island except Niihau. The complete list of polling locations will be available on the Party’s website www.hawaiidemocrats.org in January.

These are significant changes to the way Hawai’i Democrats vote.  It is more accessible and allows people to vote from the comfort of their own home or in person.

We hope that you will pass this information along to your family members, friends and neighbors. If you have any questions about these exciting changes and/or if you belong to an organization that would like someone from the Democratic Party of Hawai’i to come to a meeting to give a presentation and answer questions, please contact Michael Golojuch, Jr., Co-Chair of the DPH Membership Committee, at michael@hawaiidemocrats.org and we will work on that.

Tabling Opportunities

The Membership Committee is gathering information for additional tabling opportunities for the Party across the state. To help collect this information we have created an easy on-line form. Click here to submit any opportunities in your community or organization for the Party to have a booth at.

The Membership Committee needs to raise $900 to order a DPH branded tent to use at these events. So if you are able we would appreciate a donation. You can make a donation on-line at by clicking here or by sending a check made out to Democratic Party of Hawaii and mailed to 627 South Street, Suite 105, Honolulu, HI 96813 with “Tent” in the memo section.

Wanted Volunteers for DPH Standing Committees

The State Central Committee voted earlier this year to update the Party’s membership enrollment form, at the request of the Membership Committee, to help make sure that we are prepared for 2020 and beyond. To help with this update the Membership Committee is recruiting volunteers for several different standing committees. To sign-up please complete this on-line form http://eepurl.com/graAOf and the respective co-chair(s) will reach out to you directly. Mahalo nui loa,
