Success HB 2177 & SCR 154 Passed

Mahalo nui loa to everyone that submitted testimony in support of HB 2177 & SCR 154. They no go to the full Senate to be voted on. They were both amended but nothing we can’t live with. I will be in contact when SCR 154 is scheduled for a hearing in the House to request testimony.

HB 2177, HD1 – Amends statutory limitations on the time period in which a survivor of childhood sexual abuse may file a civil suit. Allows punitive damages. Permits the court to order restorative justice measures, if deemed appropriate. Effective upon approval.
AMENDMENTS: Unlimited Punitive Damages & Restorative Justice if only the survivor requests it.

SCR 154 – REQUESTING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO CONVENE A TASK FORCE TO STUDY THE REPORTING, PROSECUTION, AND CONVICTION RATE OF HATE CRIMES IN THE STATE.
AMENDMENTS: Removed the Task Force requirement since the Attorney General is redoing how they collect Hate Crimes data, requires 2 reports instead of only 1 report and the AG needs to include when the Hate Crimes enhanced sentencing on a suspected Hate Crime is not used along with explanation as to why.
